A MACJR Life Voyage

The Road of Life

for Bonnie, Janey, and little Carolyn Sue Dillon

It was on the road of life that we met,
us four and our mother,
those three and their father.
Together we became seven with a mother and father.
It didn't happen all at once,
but in time, we became family.

Then one day,
we were six.
The grief and hurt was thick.
The littlest one, gone,
gone from our lives,
but never from our hearts.

In time, our sorrow subsided.
The hurt, faded.
Our lives were still filled with hardships.
Some even seemed insurmountable,
but we persevered.

Fate was not finished with us.
The union of our mother and father,
crumbled and turned to dust.
We six, without a choice or say,
became four, with just a mother,
and two, with only a father.

One of the four still remembers that day.
Remembers with sadness,
although his time on this Earth has quadrupled since,
he will never forget that day so long ago.
The day the two whom he called "sisters",
were taken,
taken down a separate road of life.

Note about this poem

It was January 10, 1972 that Bonnie and Janey left on their own road of life. It was not until late 2003 that contact with Bonnie and Janey was finally made again.

On December 22, 2003, I talked with Janey and was updated on Bonnie and how their lives have been since their road diverged from ours.
