(Old phpBB) About New Member Registrations
#1
Due to an overwhelming number of fake membership registrations, I changed the board settings to make it so that new members must have their registration approved before they can become full members of this board.

If there is anyone that is actually interested in becoming a member of this board, please e-mail me so that I know to activate your account after you register.

That goes for you too, Barak Obama. Although I find it extremely unlikely that the real Barack Obama, The President of these United States of America, actually tried to sign up for this board this morning, if he did, he too has to e-mail me to get his account activated.

If, in fact, the real Barack Obama wants to join this board, I would be very happy to activate his account. However, convincing me that the real Obama wants to join our board might be a real trick. I am a natural born skeptic.  Wink

Thank you.

LOL, perhaps Barack DID want to join, but he has to do it in 'secret' otherwise they'll take away his INTERNET access like they did his BlackBerry! Icon_rolleyes Icon_e_ugeek

I currently have registration turned off.

Maybe you can guess who was most often e-mailing me registration requests? Nope, not Barack Obama. However, there were plenty of bots, spammers, and scammers trying to register through The Board's registration forms.

Even turning off registration did not stop the spammers, scammers, and bots though. They can still find the "Contact Us" link, here at this newer MyBB versions of The Board, at the bottom of all these forum pages.

Sigh. Icon_rolleyes Nono

Is it just me, or does it seem like there is a lot more of that getting through lately? I'm having a hard time keeping the adverts and download offers off my computer. Even with my ad block they still seem to get through. Confused

no its not just you. Viagra hacked my hotmail account three years ago. Although I have blocked them from sending their junk as me they are still sending me their junk no matter how much I block them. Cry

No, it was not the company that makes Viagra that hacked your account. It was a SPAMMER who hacked your account. A SPAMMER who sells, or sold, Viagra, or more likely, fake Viagra. The real company would never have pothered to hack your account, but sleazebag SPAMMERS would have. And if they are sleazy enough to hack e-mail accounts, they are also sleazy enough to sell you fake products, if you are fool enough to buy anything from a SPAMMER.

And yes, the SPAM problem really bad again. Not too long ago, they found one of my main account, blast it. It takes time to update all my accounts to point to a new e-mail address, but it looks like that is the only option at this point.

I think I will divide my online accounts, that I am signed up to with that e-mail account, into two or three new groups, so it will be less work to get rid of a single corrupted e-mail account, that has been overrun by SPAMMERS.

After I move all my accounts, they can blast the hell out of that inbox and I won't give a bleep, because I will not be there anymore.

I added my ad block over a year ago and it was complete bliss. I had no more pop ups and those horrible windows that open up with a warning that you need to update your flash player, or that you need to call a certain number because you have a virus (the virus being them). They have found away to get around the ad block now and I wonder, will adblock retaliate and come up with something to block them again? And then what? They break through that and we do the dance all over again? This is an issue that I think will become pretty serious in the end. It makes you wonder about the future of the internet.
